Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is fantastic, right by the canals and within walking distance to major attractions like the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, making it easy to explore the heart of Amsterdam.
  • The staff are notably friendly and eager to help, creating a welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel valued as a guest. They often go out of their way to provide local recommendations or assist with any requests.
  • The food in the hotel’s restaurant is excellent, with a varied menu that showcases local ingredients and flavors. Breakfast is particularly noteworthy, offering a delicious start to your day.
  • The rooms are beautifully designed, featuring a blend of classic and modern decor that adds charm to your stay. Many rooms offer stunning canal views, which enhance the overall experience.
  • An impressive library on-site provides a unique space to relax and unwind after exploring the city. It's a cozy spot to enjoy a good book or sip on a drink.
  • The hotel is accessible from Centraal Station via a short streetcar ride, making your arrival and departure hassle-free. Once you’re settled, you can easily walk to many attractions.
What doesn't
  • Some rooms have reported issues with dampness, which can be uncomfortable and may affect the overall atmosphere of the stay. It’s worth inquiring about room conditions when booking.
  • There have been instances of uncooperative service during busy times, which can be frustrating if you need assistance or have specific requests. This inconsistency can detract from an otherwise pleasant experience.
  • A few guests noted that their rooms were located a short walk from the main hotel building, which might be a surprise if you expect all amenities to be within close proximity.
  • Additional taxes that were not communicated upfront have led to some disappointment regarding overall pricing. Make sure to clarify all costs before booking to avoid surprises.

Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff, fantastic and spacious room with all the amenities. We stayed for three nights in a canal view room - watching the canal boats go by from the comfort of our sitting area became our evening routine. Enjoyed morning breakfast to start the day and the Library bar for evening refreshments. Easy street car ride to hotel from Centraal Station. Once at the hotel we mostly walked everywhere but street cars are close by if so desire. Highly recommend this hotel.

5/5

I was here for a night due to the problems at Schiphol Airport, and my layover being cancelled. When I came with a bad mood it immediately disappeared because of the cozy and warm atmosphere and the welcoming staff. The room was very neat and tidy. I told one of the staff members it was my birthday and he must've told some other staff members because when I came back to my room after dinner I had a handwritten happy birthday note with a box of chocolates. This really shows how much the staff care about your stay. They went out of the way to make the experience good. The breakfast buffet was also very nice. There were fresh fruits, homemade bread and a wide variety of eggs to order. For example scrambled, eggs benedict and omelette. The hotel was also in a good location - close to everything but not loud. In my opinion the Ambassade Hotel was 100% a 5star when thinking about the service and value for money.
Guests consistently praise the Ambassade Hotel for its excellent location, attentive staff, and comfortable accommodations. Many highlight the beautiful design of the rooms and the quality of the breakfast. Complaints are notably absent, with only a few guests mentioning minor issues, but overall, the positive experiences overshadow any negatives.

Who Should Stay Here?

Travelers who appreciate charm and convenience will find great value at the Ambassade Hotel. Its prime location near the canals gives easy access to major attractions like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum. Friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere, and the restaurant offers standout meals, particularly breakfast, which highlights local flavors. Those looking for beautifully designed rooms with canal views will be satisfied with the ambiance and aesthetics. On the other hand, visitors with high expectations for service consistency may want to consider alternatives. Reports of dampness in some rooms and uncooperative service during busy periods suggest that the hotel may not deliver a seamless experience for everyone. Additionally, if you prefer everything within close proximity, be cautious about room assignments that are a short walk from the main building. Lastly, be prepared for unexpected additional taxes that could strain your budget.
