Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and eager to help, which can make a significant difference when you're navigating a new city for the first time.
  • The location is convenient, with easy access to public transport. This means you can quickly reach Amsterdam's main attractions without getting bogged down in traffic.
  • Rooms are spacious, providing plenty of room for families or groups to spread out and relax after a day of exploring the city.
  • On-site amenities, including a gym and sauna, allow you to unwind and recharge without leaving the property, which is a treat after a long day.
  • The cleanliness of the hotel is commendable; you can expect well-maintained rooms and common areas, making for a more pleasant stay.
  • The on-site bar and lounge area provide a good space to socialize with friends after a day out, eliminating the need to venture far for a nightcap.
  • The heating system works well, ensuring a warm and cozy environment during the winter months, which is essential for comfort.
What doesn't
  • The beds can be uncomfortably firm, which might disrupt your sleep and leave you feeling less than rested for your adventures.
  • Breakfast options are quite limited, which means you'll need to find nearby cafes or shops if you're looking for a heartier start to your day.
  • Some rooms may have maintenance issues, such as non-functioning phones or heating problems, which can detract from your overall experience.
  • Key card malfunctions can be frustrating, especially when you're trying to access your room or other areas of the hotel without hassle.
  • The surrounding area lacks a decent supermarket, which can be inconvenient if you want to stock up on snacks or essentials during your stay.

Location

The Amsterdam ID Aparthotel sits in a business-centric area called Sloterdijk, known for its modern architecture and a growing array of dining options. The hotel is just a short walk from Sloterdijk Station, making it convenient for those arriving from Schiphol Airport or heading into the city center. The neighborhood itself lacks the charm of Amsterdam's historic districts but offers a practical base for travelers focused on business or short stays. Within a 20-minute walk, guests can explore the Westergasfabriek, a former gasworks site transformed into a cultural hub with shops, restaurants, and event spaces. For those inclined to venture further, the vibrant neighborhoods of Jordaan and Westerpark are easily accessible by tram or bike. This location suits business travelers and families seeking spacious accommodations, but leisure travelers wanting to immerse themselves in the city's iconic sights may find the extra commute a drawback.

Redeem

First time going to Amsterdam. Staff were nice. We weren't happy with our first room, which is why I gave a low review, but the staff did redeem themselves and give us a better room. The second room was much better and made my stay in Amsterdam better.
The first room we were given had a funny smell. There was no hand wash/soap or body wash. The remote had a lot of dust. The phone didn't work. The view was horrible, we could only see a car park at the back of the hotel.
Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff, the cleanliness of the hotel, and the overall value for money. However, issues with room quality, such as unpleasant odors and inadequate amenities, have been common complaints.

Who Should Stay Here?

Families and groups will appreciate the spacious rooms and friendly staff at Amsterdam ID Aparthotel. With easy access to public transport, you can explore the city without the hassle of traffic. The on-site gym and sauna provide a convenient way to unwind after a busy day. If you prioritize space and helpful service, this hotel will serve you well. On the other hand, solo travelers or couples seeking a romantic getaway might want to consider other options. The firm beds can disrupt sleep, and the limited breakfast offerings may not satisfy those looking for a more substantial start to their day. Frequent maintenance issues and key card malfunctions can also lead to a frustrating experience, making this hotel less appealing for those who value a seamless stay.

The Verdict

Our Take

Amsterdam ID Aparthotel offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and spacious rooms, making it a solid choice for families and groups. Its convenient location provides easy access to public transport, allowing you to explore the city without hassle. However, the firm beds and limited breakfast options might not suit everyone's tastes, and occasional maintenance issues can be a bother. If you prioritize space and helpful service over perfect comfort, this hotel is a worthwhile option.
