Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff here are exceptionally friendly, making you feel welcome and appreciated during your stay. A warm greeting can really set the tone for a trip.
  • The hotel is conveniently located near major highways, making it easy to explore Austin without getting stuck in traffic. Whether you're heading downtown or to nearby attractions, access is straightforward.
  • Parking is free and plentiful, which is a relief in a city where finding a spot can be a hassle. You can come and go without worrying about extra fees.
  • Room prices are very affordable, allowing you to save money for exploring the city or enjoying local dining. If you're on a budget, this can be a significant plus.
  • Some rooms are quieter than others, offering a surprisingly peaceful retreat after a busy day. A good night’s sleep can make all the difference in your travels.
  • The location is close to several local eateries and shops, giving you plenty of options without having to drive far. It’s nice to step out and find convenience right at your doorstep.
  • The Wi-Fi is generally reliable, which is great if you need to catch up on work or stay connected with friends and family during your trip.
What doesn't
  • Cleanliness is a recurring issue, with reports of unkempt rooms that can make you question how thoroughly the space has been prepared for guests. This could leave you feeling uncomfortable during your stay.
  • Construction noise nearby can disrupt your peace, especially if you're trying to relax or catch up on sleep. A noisy environment can be frustrating for tired travelers.
  • Some guests reported inconsistent housekeeping, leading to issues like missing towels or unmade beds. When you're paying for a room, you expect basic services to be provided.
  • Smoke odors can linger in supposedly non-smoking rooms, which can be unpleasant for guests sensitive to smells. It’s disappointing when the environment doesn’t align with expectations.
  • There have been complaints about being given the wrong room type, which can be particularly annoying if you have specific needs like a bathtub. Getting the room you reserved is essential to a satisfying stay.

Location

The Motel 6 in North Austin sits just off I-35, making it a convenient stop for travelers heading through Texas or those on their way to downtown Austin. This part of the city feels more suburban, with a mix of fast-food joints and local eateries nearby. While the hotel itself doesn’t offer much in terms of walkability, you can find a few restaurants within a short drive, like the popular Chuy’s for some Tex-Mex or the iconic Shady Grove for a relaxed outdoor dining experience. The area has a laid-back vibe, typical of Austin but leans more towards the casual side. For those who venture a bit further, attractions like the Domain and the North Loop district are only a short drive away. The Domain offers a sprawling shopping experience with a mix of high-end and local shops, while the North Loop has its share of quirky thrift stores and vintage shops. If you're in town for a concert or event, downtown Austin is accessible via a 15-minute drive, making this location suitable for budget-conscious travelers who want to enjoy the city's vibrant culture without the downtown price tag.

Guests frequently praise the friendly and helpful staff, highlighting their willingness to accommodate requests. However, complaints about cleanliness and safety issues arise repeatedly, particularly regarding unleashed dogs and unresponsive management. The pool being frequently closed also contributes to overall dissatisfaction.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget travelers and those who prioritize friendly service will find value here. The staff's welcoming attitude can make up for the hotel’s shortcomings in cleanliness and upkeep. If you need a spot to rest your head after a day of exploring Austin, the affordable rates and easy access to highways make this a practical choice. Free parking adds to the convenience, allowing for hassle-free trips around the city. However, if you're seeking a tidy and peaceful environment, this hotel may not suit your needs. Guests who are sensitive to noise or cleanliness issues should consider alternatives. Families or travelers looking for a more reliable experience might want to look elsewhere, especially given the reports of inconsistent housekeeping and lingering smoke odors.
