Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff is generally friendly and accommodating, which can make a big difference in how comfortable you feel during your stay. A warm greeting and willingness to help can turn a good trip into a great one.
  • This hotel is located near the University of Chicago, so you can easily walk to campus or grab a meal nearby. Being in a safe area helps you feel secure whether you're out exploring or returning late.
  • Many guests appreciate the breakfast variety, with multiple options that go beyond the typical continental fare. A good breakfast fuels your day, especially if you have plans to explore the city.
  • The rooms are clean and comfortable, providing a good space to relax after a day of sightseeing. Cleanliness matters when you're away from home and want to feel at ease in your environment.
  • Parking is convenient and generally feels safe, which is a bonus in a city where street parking can be a hassle. Knowing your vehicle is secure lets you focus on enjoying your trip.
What doesn't
  • Some guests have experienced cleanliness issues, with reports ranging from musty odors to cleanliness concerns. A lack of attention to detail can impact your overall enjoyment and comfort.
  • The absence of microwaves in the rooms can be a hassle if you enjoy late-night snacks or want to reheat leftovers. It limits your ability to manage meals on your own schedule.
  • The heating system can be overly reactive, creating an uncomfortable environment if you can't control the temperature easily. This can disrupt your sleep and overall comfort during your stay.
  • Several guests mentioned issues with the front desk staff being unhelpful or rude, which can sour your experience. Customer service is a critical component of a positive hotel stay, and feeling dismissed can be frustrating.
  • The bathrooms have been noted to smell unpleasant, which can be off-putting during your stay. An unclean bathroom can overshadow the comfort of the rest of the room.

The staff are great and the room was everything I needed - clean, comfortable, and quiet. Both times I’ve stayed at this hotel, I’ve had a good experience. Great location, too!

It was great except the staff ruined it for us

It was very clean great location but staff was HORRIBLE! Very very rude, asked for a Starbucks they legit but my head off and said well all we have is beans it won’t be fancy! It had a Starbucks sign so I assumed they made it wasn’t made very clear that they didn’t have a menu, so she then proceeded to make my coffee very angrily, I was very uncomfortable, then my family and I was woke up out of dead sleep at midnight with the next room screaming at their kids for well over an hour, I didn’t say anything till it continued to go on for about 45 min so I went down to the desk as our phone in the room doesn’t call the front desk, the same lady I dealt with the coffee was there and she legit acted annoyed as hell that it was 1am and my whole family was woke up, she didn’t do shit about it, didn’t move a muscle and basically made me feel like I just needed to deal with it, and this am I had another rude staff member, you should have some nice staff members because your hotel is amazing but I will not be back because of the 2 VERY RUDE staff members other than them my stay was great but they Ruined it with how very very angry rude they were!
Read above comment I put it in the wrong part, I like everything but the staff

5Average

The room itself was very spacious and accommodating. The receptionist was very polite .

The front deck was very accommodating. We asked to move rooms because our room smelled musty. It was gross!! The front desk gave us a new room without any problem.
That our first room smelled like mold, musty ,it was just gross. The room they moved us to had a view of construction. So we were woke up early. The parking garage was a complete mess to understand. There definitely needs to be better directions on the doors in the garage.
Guests consistently praise the cleanliness of the rooms and the hotel's convenient location. However, complaints frequently highlight issues with the staff's demeanor, with several guests describing them as rude or unhelpful. Additional grievances include the lack of microwaves in rooms and concerns about parking and outdated bathroom fixtures.

Who Should Stay Here?

This hotel suits budget-conscious travelers and those visiting the University of Chicago. If you appreciate friendly staff and a solid breakfast to kickstart your day, this hotel delivers. Its location offers easy access to campus and nearby dining, making it a convenient choice for families or prospective students. Clean, comfortable rooms are a plus, especially after a day of exploring the city. However, guests who prioritize pristine cleanliness or exceptional customer service might want to consider other options. Reports of musty odors and unhelpful front desk staff indicate that not every stay is up to par. If you need a reliable heating system or enjoy the convenience of a microwave in your room, you may find your experience lacking here.
