Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is a major highlight. You are just steps away from North Michigan Avenue, where you can find shopping, dining, and cultural attractions, making it easy to explore without needing a car.
  • The staff is genuinely friendly and eager to assist. Their willingness to help can make a stressful travel experience much more pleasant, especially if you're unfamiliar with the area.
  • Breakfast options are delicious and offer a good variety. Starting your day with a tasty meal gives you energy for exploring the city.
  • The hotel has a charming historical vibe that many guests appreciate. The architecture and decor add character, making your stay feel unique compared to more modern, cookie-cutter hotels.
  • Comfortable beds ensure a restful night. After a long day of sightseeing, having a good night's sleep is essential, and the beds deliver on that promise.
  • The fitness center is decent for a quick workout. If you like to stay active while traveling, this can help you maintain your routine.
  • Late checkout options are available through your phone. This flexibility is great for guests who have later flights or just want to enjoy their last moments in the city.
What doesn't
  • Cleanliness issues can be a concern. Reports of brown water in the shower and overall lack of thorough cleaning diminish the comfort of your stay.
  • Service can be inconsistent, especially at the front desk. Rude interactions can leave a sour taste, contradicting the otherwise friendly staff vibe.
  • Many amenities, such as the restaurant and bar, are currently closed. This limits your dining options and can leave you seeking meals elsewhere, which is inconvenient.
  • Some bathrooms have functional flaws, like leaking showers. A poor bathroom experience can affect your overall comfort, especially if it gets your floors wet.
  • The hotel appears to be declining in maintenance and service. Many guests have noted disappointing experiences that suggest management may not be prioritizing upkeep.

8Excellent

Reasonable price for a great location.

Like the location off of North Michigan Avenue. Red Line Train was convenient. Loved Starbucks, Cheesecake Factory, and many fine eating establishments. The price was better than some and fell short in price and finishes of the high end hotels.
The shower was confusing with both overhead rain and the targeted wand hand held. . .ended up with lots of water on the floor. HVAC was very responsive. We did not watch the television and did not have it on.

Great location.
It really feels like this place is going downhill fast. The restaurant and bar were closed down. The staff didn’t have a good reason for the closures. No coffee in the rooms or lobby. And the WiFi did not work. The tv was very difficult to change channels.
Guests frequently praise the Millennium Hotel Knickerbocker for its cozy atmosphere and excellent location, particularly near North Michigan Avenue. However, complaints about maintenance issues, such as confusing shower fixtures and closed restaurant facilities, along with inconsistent service, indicate a decline in the overall experience.

Who Should Stay Here?

The Millennium Hotel Knickerbocker Chicago suits travelers who prioritize location and character over flawless execution. If you enjoy being steps away from North Michigan Avenue's shopping and dining, this hotel lets you explore the Windy City without a car. Friendly staff enhance the experience, especially for those who appreciate a welcoming atmosphere. Breakfast options are a treat, providing a solid start to busy days of sightseeing. On the other hand, visitors seeking pristine cleanliness and consistently high service standards should consider other options. Reports of brown water and inconsistent service at the front desk may deter those who value a reliable experience. If you prefer amenities like an open restaurant or bar, you might find this hotel lacking due to current closures.
