Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location puts you right in the heart of downtown Chicago, making it easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and the Chicago Theater, which is a major plus for those looking to immerse themselves in the city.
  • The service staff is notably friendly and responsive, which can make a huge difference in your overall experience, especially when you need assistance or recommendations.
  • Rooms are clean and comfortable, providing a cozy retreat after a long day of exploring the city.
  • The rooftop bar is a highlight, offering stunning views of the skyline, but be sure to make reservations in advance to secure your spot.
  • The hotel has a modern aesthetic, appealing to those who appreciate contemporary design in their accommodations.
What doesn't
  • The $29 resort fee can feel sneaky, especially when it doesn't clearly apply to meals you might want to use it for, leading to feelings of being nickeled and dimed.
  • Cleaning services are limited, and the lack of towel reuse options can be frustrating, especially for environmentally conscious travelers.
  • Valet service can be painfully slow, so plan ahead and call well in advance if you need your car at a specific time.
  • The rooftop access policy is confusing, as it often requires an extra fee for entry, despite being advertised as part of the hotel experience.
  • On weekends, the lobby can feel overcrowded and chaotic, making it hard to find a relaxing space after a busy day.

I stayed in the King Spa soaker tub room and when I say it’s perfect. The soaker tub was so deep and comfortable. The view into the city was amazing. The Roof at the Wit was a nice time. The view was amazing, the staff was very helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend. It is a walkable area, close to riverwalk, about 30min walk to the Navy Pier and lots of restaurants and stores are close by.

6Good

great staff, but eco unfriendly with a hidden fee

I loved the staff. They were so nice. I was sad that there was no recycling available anywhere on the property. (I asked at the front desk.) No option to reuse towels; they always launder and replace them. On a warm day, the air conditioner level was set to 65F -- way colder than necessary. Heads up that they require you to pay the $29 resort fee ($25+tax) and say you can put it toward food, but they make it a hard to use. Can't use it for breakfast on check-out day, for example. So if you check in late (after dinner) or don't have dinner at their fancy restaurant, you can't use the fee. I think they should just include it in the price of the room, and show it as part of the cost. It's just a hidden fee.
Guests consistently praise theWit Chicago for its clean rooms, friendly staff, and excellent location, which makes it convenient for exploring local shops and attractions. However, complaints often center around hidden fees, particularly the resort fee that many feel is misleading, along with concerns about the hotel's environmental practices.

Who Should Stay Here?

TheWit Chicago is a solid choice for travelers who want to be in the thick of downtown action. Those who thrive on nearby shops, restaurants, and attractions like the Chicago Theater will appreciate the prime location. Friendly and responsive staff enhance the experience, making it easy to get recommendations or assistance when needed. Guests who enjoy a lively atmosphere will love the rooftop bar and its impressive skyline views, provided they make reservations beforehand. On the flip side, this hotel may not suit budget-conscious travelers. The $29 resort fee can catch guests off guard, especially since it doesn’t directly contribute to meals or services. Environmentally conscious visitors might be disappointed by limited cleaning services and the lack of towel reuse options. If you value prompt valet service, be prepared for delays that could disrupt your plans.

The Verdict

Our Take

theWit Chicago offers a prime downtown location, attentive service, and clean, comfortable rooms that make it a solid choice for city explorers. The rooftop bar is a must-visit for its incredible skyline views, though make reservations ahead of time. However, the $29 resort fee and limited cleaning services can leave a sour taste, especially for those conscious of hidden costs. Overall, if you can overlook the extra charges, this hotel delivers a vibrant Chicago experience.
