Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff is genuinely welcoming and eager to assist, making you feel valued from check-in to check-out. Their helpfulness can really turn a rough stay into a more pleasant experience.
  • The location offers convenient access to shopping and dining options, which means you can easily explore the area without having to travel far. It’s a real advantage when you want to grab a bite or pick up essentials.
  • The hotel offers affordable prices compared to many other options in New York City. This makes it easier to enjoy the city without breaking the bank, especially for longer stays.
  • Rooms are generally clean, which is crucial for a comfortable stay. A fresh room can set the right tone for your visit, even if other aspects aren’t up to par.
  • The bar provides two drink coupons per night, giving you a chance to unwind with complimentary cocktails or coffee. It’s a nice touch that can enhance your overall experience.
  • Modern decor adds a stylish vibe to the hotel, helping you feel like you’re in a trendy part of New York. The aesthetic can make your stay feel more enjoyable, even if the room size is tight.
  • Proximity to Columbia Medical Center is a great perk for anyone visiting the hospital or nearby area. This is particularly convenient if you have medical appointments or need to be close to family.
What doesn't
  • There are issues with room cleanliness, and some guests reported housekeeping missed days, which can leave you feeling neglected. You shouldn’t have to request cleaning every day.
  • Room light problems can be frustrating, especially if you rely on adequate lighting for getting ready or working. Having dim or malfunctioning lights can impact your comfort and productivity.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity issues can be a hassle if you need to stay connected for work or planning your daily itinerary. A reliable connection is essential when traveling, and these problems can disrupt your plans.
  • The neighborhood has been described as feeling unsafe, which can be unsettling during your stay. It's important to feel secure in your surroundings, especially if you plan to explore the area at night.
  • Noise from the street can be disruptive, particularly if your room faces a busy road. If you’re sensitive to sound, consider requesting a room away from the street to ensure a better night’s sleep.

10Exceptional

The staff was amazing, sweet, and attentive.

The staff was amazing. But the phones not working was unacceptable and we need hotel service early. However, when I interacted with them they were helpful and sweet.

8Excellent

Cute spot in a section with few hotels. I'll stay here again if in this part of city.

Stylish hotel and one of the only places to stay in this part of NYC. It's great to have this option! Not far from subway. Comfortable beds.
Bathroom door is annoying and allows for little privacy. Rooms are pretty tight. It's New York (thus small rooms) but we've stayed in much more central locations in the city for a comparable price and had way more space. Our room faced a street with constant car honking noise at night. NYC is loud, I get it, but it seemed like the windows were not nearly as sound proof as they could be. Next time I'll ask for a room not facing the street.

A hipster hotel that I could have loved at age 23

The restaurant Jalao is really, really good! It’s not big, but the food is really terrific!
Travelers should know that this place is incredibly LOUD. As in, there’s a PA system pumping out club music until 10:30 p.m. Yes, the room has a radio in it and a television, but you cannot use them as the thumping r&b best drowns everything out.
Guests consistently praise the friendly and attentive staff at Radio Hotel, highlighting their helpfulness and warm atmosphere. However, complaints frequently center around noise issues, with several guests noting that the hotel can be excessively loud and that room sizes can feel cramped, especially given the high prices.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget-conscious travelers and those looking for a welcoming atmosphere will find value at Radio Hotel. The friendly staff genuinely enhances the experience, making it easier to overlook some minor flaws. With affordable rates and easy access to local dining and shopping, it’s a solid choice for those wanting to explore New York without overspending. The clean rooms can help set a positive tone for your stay, making it a decent option for longer visits. On the other hand, if you prioritize cleanliness and safety, you might want to consider other options. Reports of inconsistent housekeeping and room light issues can detract from your comfort. Additionally, concerns about neighborhood safety could hinder your experience, especially if you plan to venture out in the evenings. For travelers who require reliable Wi-Fi or expect a higher standard of maintenance, seeking alternatives would be wise.

The Verdict

Our Take

Radio Hotel offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere and a prime location that makes exploring New York City easy. Its affordability adds to its appeal, especially for budget-conscious travelers. However, inconsistent cleanliness, lighting issues, and Wi-Fi troubles can detract from the experience. If you value a friendly staff and convenient access to the city more than pristine conditions, this hotel is a solid choice.
