Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is a stone's throw from Petco Park, making it incredibly convenient for catching a game or concert without the hassle of long commutes or parking headaches.
  • The staff at this hotel stand out, with guests consistently praising their warmth and willingness to help. Special shout outs to team members like Wendy highlight the personal touch that can make your stay memorable.
  • Rooms are clean and well-maintained, offering a pleasant environment to unwind after a day of exploring the city or attending conferences.
  • Easy access to public transportation means you can navigate the downtown area without needing a car. This is especially beneficial for travelers looking to explore beyond just the immediate surroundings.
  • The rooftop restaurant offers a nice escape with decent views, a great spot to enjoy a drink while taking in the San Diego skyline after a busy day.
  • The hotel is in close proximity to the Harbor, providing opportunities for waterfront activities and scenic walks, which adds to the overall experience of being in San Diego.
What doesn't
  • Parking fees are steep, with valet costing around $65 per night. This can catch budget-conscious travelers off guard, making it a significant extra expense.
  • Noise from nearby bars and nightlife can seep into the rooms, which may disrupt your sleep if you're not used to urban sounds. Consider earplugs if you're a light sleeper.
  • Some guests found the beds uncomfortable, with issues like one side being too hard and the other too soft. A good night's sleep is vital when traveling, and these inconsistencies can be frustrating.
  • The food options are heavily focused on alcohol, which can leave health-conscious guests searching for decent meal choices. If you’re after a nutritious bite, you may need to venture out.
  • The shower drainage can be sluggish, leading to water buildup during your shower. This is not ideal when you just want to enjoy a quick refresh after a long day.

Great experience

Overall the stay was great, although I was on there for the weekend it was nice to feel relaxed and comfortable
I did not like the parking situation I had to find street parking because it was $65 to stay over night and I thought that was expensive and I thought I wouldn’t have to worry about parking since I was staying at the property.

Accommodating and safe

I had another hotel reservation, but it was not what I needed as a solo female traveler. Basically, I needed to scramble on a moment's notice to find a new hotel to stay at. Not only was Courtyard available, in the right location, it was a good deal. I cannot thank the front desk manager enough for her kindness in the check-in process. I knew immediately upon my arrival that I would feel safe at this hotel.
I don't have any complaints or things I disliked. My only suggestion would be to perhaps include a small microwave in rooms along with the mini fridge. Beyond that, zero dislikes during my stay at Courtyard.

Great stay

We had a great stay!! The bathroom counter space was the only issue we had. We found it difficult to place our toiletries and my wife's make up around the sink without having to remove items.

The roof top resteas amazing.
I was in a room with ada access, and the shower combo failed to deliver hot water.
Guests frequently praise the staff for their friendliness and helpfulness, with particular recognition for individuals like Wendy. Many reviews highlight the comfort and safety of the hotel, especially for solo travelers. However, common complaints include the high parking fees, which some find excessive, and issues with bathroom counter space and hot water in certain rooms.

Who Should Stay Here?

This hotel serves travelers who appreciate convenience and friendly service. If you are attending an event at Petco Park or a conference at the convention center, you will find this location advantageous. The staff's warm demeanor adds a personal touch that enhances your stay. Guests looking for a clean, well-maintained room to retreat to after a day of exploring will also find value here, especially with easy access to public transportation for further adventures around downtown. On the other hand, budget-conscious travelers should think twice before booking here. The steep parking fees can turn what seems like a reasonable rate into a financial burden. If you are a light sleeper, the noise from nearby nightlife might disrupt your rest. Additionally, those who prioritize comfortable bedding might be disappointed by the inconsistencies. Health-conscious guests may find the limited food options unsatisfactory, as the focus leans heavily toward alcoholic beverages rather than nutritious meals.
