Pros & Cons

What works
  • The rooms are consistently clean and cozy, making it a comfortable retreat after a long day in the city. You can count on fresh linens and well-maintained bathrooms.
  • The breakfast selection is impressive for a three-star hotel, featuring a variety of options to fuel your day. This can save you time and money, especially in a city known for its pricey dining.
  • Staff members are friendly and attentive, making your stay more enjoyable. Their willingness to help can make a big difference if you need local tips or assistance.
  • The rooftop terrace offers a nice spot to unwind and enjoy views of the city. It’s a great place to relax without having to venture out into the sometimes chaotic streets below.
  • The hotel employs a secure access system for the lobby, which adds an extra layer of safety in an area that can feel a bit rough at times. This can provide peace of mind while you're out exploring.
  • Call responses at the front desk are quick and efficient, so you won’t find yourself waiting long for assistance. This responsiveness can be a lifesaver in a busy city like San Francisco.
  • The beds and blankets are soft and inviting, ensuring a good night's sleep. A comfortable bed can make all the difference in how rested you feel for your adventures.
What doesn't
  • The rooms are small, which can be cramped for families or groups traveling together. If you're planning to spend a lot of time in your room, this could be a significant drawback.
  • Parking is not included in the room rate, which adds extra expenses to your stay. In a city where parking is notoriously expensive, this can quickly inflate your travel budget.
  • The location has its drawbacks, with a noticeable presence of homelessness in the surrounding area. While this is not the hotel's fault, it may affect your comfort level when walking around.
  • The valet parking situation can be frustrating, with limited availability leading to long wait times. If you're relying on your vehicle, this may lead to unnecessary stress during your stay.
  • Check-in can be slow, especially during peak times when staffing seems insufficient. A long wait after traveling can be particularly exasperating when you just want to settle in.

5Average

My stay for this property was overpriced for the area this was located in San Francisco. Area was a busy street with lot

Bed and blankets were very soft and comfortable.
12/31/25-1/1/26- Property was right in mission district aka tenderloin. I had a homeless guy try to open my car door while waiting for valet to get my car (luckily the door was locked). Only 2 staff members at the desk during the beginning of check in time (3:20pm) and service was slow. There was an extremely long line and not enough space to get past guests who were waiting to be checked in.
Guests consistently praise the Hampton Inn San Francisco Downtown/Convention Center for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and helpful staff. However, many reviews highlight concerns about the surrounding area, particularly the presence of homeless individuals, which detracts from the overall experience.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget-conscious travelers and those attending events at the nearby convention center will find great value here. The clean and cozy rooms serve as a solid base for exploring San Francisco, and the generous breakfast can save both time and money in a city full of expensive dining options. Friendly staff are always ready to help, making it a comfortable choice for solo adventurers or couples. Families or larger groups should consider other options. The small rooms can feel cramped, especially if you plan to spend time indoors. Additionally, the parking situation can be a hassle, with high fees and limited availability creating potential stress. For those sensitive to their surroundings, the area's visible homelessness might detract from the experience.

Our Take

The impressive breakfast and attentive staff enhance the experience, while the rooftop terrace provides a lovely escape from the urban hustle. However, the small room sizes and extra parking fees may be a concern for some. If you can overlook the cramped quarters and the surrounding area's challenges, this hotel offers good value for your stay in San Francisco.
