Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is prime, giving you easy access to public transit and major attractions like the Moscone Center and Union Square. This means you can explore the city without spending too much time in transit.
  • The beds are exceptionally comfortable, featuring plush mattresses and quality linens that make for restful nights after a day of sightseeing. A good night's sleep can set the tone for your entire trip.
  • Staff members are attentive and genuinely friendly, always ready to assist with requests or recommendations. This level of service can make you feel valued and more at home during your stay.
  • The amenities are solid, with a well-equipped fitness center and an inviting lounge area. These features allow you to unwind or maintain your routine without stepping outside.
  • The views from higher floors are stunning, especially from the corner king rooms that offer a panoramic perspective of the city. Waking up to that skyline can be a highlight of your trip.
  • The Hyatt Regency Club access adds perks like complimentary snacks and coffee, though the value might be debatable. If you enjoy light bites and beverages throughout the day, it could enhance your experience.
  • The hotel maintains a high standard of cleanliness, which is essential for a comfortable stay. You can expect well-maintained rooms and common areas.
What doesn't
  • There can be a language barrier at reception, which might complicate check-in or special requests. This could be frustrating if you need immediate assistance or clarification.
  • Breakfast options are limited, which may leave you wanting more variety. If you’re a breakfast person, you might find yourself searching for local spots to fill the gap.
  • The prices can be steep, especially during peak seasons or events, making it a significant investment for a stay. If you’re on a budget, you may need to weigh the costs carefully.
  • Noise levels can be an issue with doors opening and closing frequently, which can disrupt your peace. A quiet environment is crucial for a relaxing getaway, and this may detract from that vibe.
  • The billiard table was covered, which disappointed those looking for some casual entertainment. If you're hoping for a lively atmosphere, this could be a letdown.

Corner King Room

My boyfriend and I got the corner king room (high floors) with our Triple A deal which allowed us to have free parking with the Hyatt. It was perfect because valet parked our car. We requested the highest room possible and while checking in the front desk receptionist, Sara, accommodated us with the highest she could get us. Considering we checked in at 5pm, we got floor 29. We also requested a late check out for an addition $50 and got to stay until 4:00 pm. We received 2 complimentary waters and 1 $15 voucher to buy from the market. We were able to buy 2 popcorn bags, small ice cream, and an orange. Our room was nice, clean, and had a great view. Cons: The billiard table was covered which was a bummer because we wanted to play, but we also did not ask the staff why it was. It was quite noisy on our floor with the doors opening and closing which made our door open and close with the air.

Wonderful stay in San Francisco!

We had a very pleasant stay at Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown SOMA. Jennifer at the reception made our arrival especially smooth by allowing us an early check-in, which was much appreciated after a long overnight flight. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with a king-size bed and a lovely view. The hotel’s location was perfect for us and just a few minutes’ walk to Union Square and many cafés and restaurants. We would definitely stay here again on our next visit to San Francisco.

Who Should Stay Here?

Business travelers and tourists who want to explore the heart of San Francisco will find significant value at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown SOMA. Its central location makes it easy to access public transportation and major attractions like the Moscone Center and Union Square. Comfortable beds and friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that guests can recharge after a busy day. The amenities, including a well-equipped fitness center and lounge area, add to the convenience for those looking to maintain their routine or unwind after a long day. On the other hand, budget-conscious travelers or those seeking a fulfilling breakfast experience might want to look elsewhere. High prices during peak seasons can make this hotel a financial stretch for some, and limited breakfast options may leave early risers in search of more satisfying choices. Additionally, noise levels in the hotel can disrupt a tranquil stay, which is not ideal for guests who prioritize a peaceful environment.
