Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff genuinely goes out of their way to make you feel welcome and attended to, which can make a big difference in your overall experience, especially after a long day exploring the city.
  • The location is a highlight, as you are just a five-minute walk from major museums like the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum, meaning you can easily pop back to the hotel for a quick rest or snack.
  • The hotel has a quirky design that adds character, creating an inviting atmosphere where you can unwind after a busy day.
  • A complimentary welcome drink is a nice touch that sets a friendly tone for your stay, making it feel more personalized right from the start.
  • The breakfast, while it could use more variety, is tasty and offers a solid start to your day, giving you the energy to tackle Amsterdam's sights.
What doesn't
  • Cleanliness can be hit or miss, which is frustrating when you're trying to relax and enjoy your stay; you want to feel comfortable in your space.
  • The small room size can be a challenge, especially if you're traveling with family or a lot of luggage, as it limits your ability to move around freely.
  • The mattresses aren't the most comfortable, which can leave you feeling fatigued by morning, impacting your enjoyment of the next day's adventures.
  • The lack of basic amenities like a chair or desk in the room can make it inconvenient if you need to organize your belongings or enjoy a hot drink in comfort.

10Exceptional

Ideal location away from the chaos

We loved the style of decoration and added touches like the basketball hoop and ball. We had a small room but the space was used very wisely so it didn’t feel cramped - we would book this hotel again.

9Exceptional
Except breakfast everything was great, 10 out of 10. 😊
Breakfast was tasty but there was not much variety. As an idea there could be something warm such as scramble eggs etc.

Location was just perfect, very close to all museums,5min walk and few tram stops away from other tourists attractions. Also the breakfast was very good and staff was kind.
I would prefer smaller pillows, they were too big for.me and kids.

7Very Good
The steff was amazing, helpful nice troully wonderful, location was also reealy good 3 minets to public transport and walking distance to all the major locations
The room was small, we took the medium room and still it wasn't big enough
Guests frequently praise the stylish decor and the hotel's excellent location near museums and public transportation. However, complaints about the small room sizes and limited breakfast variety are common, suggesting that while the hotel excels in aesthetics and convenience, some practical aspects may need improvement.

Who Should Stay Here?

Travelers who prioritize location and a welcoming atmosphere will appreciate Max Brown Hotel Museum Square. If you're planning to explore Amsterdam's cultural highlights, being just a five-minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum offers unbeatable convenience. The friendly staff enhances the experience, ensuring you feel at home after a day of sightseeing. Those who enjoy quirky design will find the hotel’s character appealing, making it a pleasant place to unwind. On the other hand, families or those with significant luggage should consider other options. The small room sizes can feel cramped, and the lack of basic amenities like a chair or desk limits comfort. Additionally, cleanliness issues and less-than-comfortable mattresses could detract from your overall experience. If you need space and reliability, this hotel might not meet your expectations.

The Verdict

Our Take

Max Brown Hotel Museum Square has a lot going for it, including a welcoming staff and a prime location near major museums. The quirky design adds charm, and the complimentary welcome drink is a nice personal touch. However, the hit-or-miss cleanliness, small room sizes, and less-than-comfortable mattresses can detract from the experience. If you prioritize location and character over absolute comfort, this hotel is worth considering.
