Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff here genuinely make an effort to connect with guests, which turns every interaction into a pleasant experience. You’ll feel like a VIP from the moment you arrive.
  • The location on Fifth Avenue puts you steps away from Central Park and renowned shopping, making it easy to explore the city without long commutes.
  • The rooms are immaculately clean and spacious, delivering a level of comfort that makes it easy to unwind after a long day of sightseeing.
  • The breakfast options are extensive and delicious, offering a variety that keeps things interesting each morning. You won’t find yourself bored with the same routine.
  • The Rotonda is a stunning space for afternoon tea, providing a lovely atmosphere that feels both luxurious and inviting. It's a perfect spot to relax or conduct informal meetings.
  • The hotel’s decor exudes old-world charm, making every corner feel special and steeped in history. You’ll appreciate the attention to detail throughout the property.
  • The bar features live music and an impressive drink menu, creating an enjoyable nightcap experience that you’ll want to return to after a day out.
What doesn't
  • Prices for food and drinks are steep, which can add up quickly if you're not careful. It’s worth budgeting for these expenses before your stay.
  • Some rooms are prone to noise from the street, which can disrupt your sleep if you're a light sleeper. Consider packing earplugs just in case.
  • Service can be hit or miss during peak times, which may leave you feeling overlooked when you need assistance. Patience may be required during busy periods.
  • The bathrooms in some rooms, especially those with park views, can be quite small and may not meet expectations for a luxury hotel. This could feel cramped for anyone accustomed to more spacious amenities.

Wonderful Stay!

This hotel is a wonderful one! I really loved the way it was decorated for Christmas. You could feel the joy of the holydays. The staff was friendly, respectful and, most of all, very helpful. We had a suite on 38 floor with a beautiful view on the Central Park so we could enjoy some of the finest sunrises in New York. If you choose this hotel, take a room with a park view, on the upper floors. I assure you you won't regret it. The room exceeded my expectations in size and comfort. Extra large bed, spotless room and linen, room service and permanent assistance from the reception will make your stay a perfect one. They accommodated my son in the same room and I really appreciated that. The breakfast was a la carte, with enough choices not to get bored and really really tasty, regardless of your choice. My only remark regarding it is that when you pay such an amount on a room and you have breakfast included, you expect to be really included. Instead, we were given a 96 USD credit for the breakfast, and we had to pay what exceeded that amount. It leaves a bad taste and is a shame, as everything else was perfect. Is not like you have multiple mouth and you will eat 5 breakfasts... The lounge bar offers a wide range of drinks, the waiters were super nice and is really worth spending some time there after a full day. The food at dinner - we only tried it once, it was good, but not something out of ordinary, even though the menu looked fantastic.
Actually included breakfast.

Excellent location, attentive staff, historic landmark.

Pros: Quiet luxury and grand dame look; you can feel its history. Location is excellent, right on 5th Ave at the SE corner of Central Park and close to several subway stations. Breakfast and lunch were great. The Rotonda is beautiful for afternoon tea or even as a work/leisure space. Friendly and attentive staff--particular shoutout to Luis at Perrine Restaurant.
Cons: Room service is not 24/7 and operates until 10:30-11pm. The room was smaller than expected and a bit dated (the bathroom was not). My main qualm was with the astonishing amount of static in the room, particularly the bed/linens and even the cotton towels. I presume it's a seasonal issue now in the wintertime, but I wish they could use anti-static spray to mitigate.

The staff are incredible, I would return because of the excellent service, but the room is small and needs to be updated

Old, but have a charm
Small room
Guests frequently praise the attentive and friendly staff at The Pierre, highlighting their willingness to go above and beyond to enhance the stay. The hotel's prime location and charming, historic atmosphere also receive consistent positive remarks. However, complaints about room size and the need for updates are common, along with dissatisfaction regarding the breakfast credit policy, which some feel is misleading given the price of the stay.

Who Should Stay Here?

Business travelers and luxury seekers find immense value in The Pierre. The attentive staff and prime location on Fifth Avenue cater to those who appreciate personalized service and easy access to both corporate and leisure activities. The spacious, clean rooms provide a comfortable retreat after a hectic day, while the extensive breakfast options ensure guests start their mornings on a high note. Travelers who prioritize experience over cost will feel right at home here. On the other hand, those on a budget should steer clear. The high prices for food and drinks can quickly drain your wallet, making it less suitable for anyone looking for a cost-effective stay. Light sleepers may also struggle with street noise, and the smaller bathrooms could disappoint guests used to more lavish accommodations. If value for money is your primary concern, there are plenty of alternative options in New York City.

The Verdict

Our Take

The Pierre, A Taj Hotel offers a luxurious experience with attentive staff and a prime location that makes city exploration effortless. The spacious, clean rooms provide a comfortable retreat after a day out, and the breakfast selection is both extensive and enjoyable. However, be prepared for high prices on food and drinks, and light sleepers should consider potential street noise. If you value exceptional service and a central setting, this hotel is a strong choice despite a few minor drawbacks.
