Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is unbeatable. Being in the heart of Times Square means you are steps away from iconic attractions, restaurants, and the vibrant energy of the city that never sleeps.
  • The terraces with views of Times Square are a unique highlight. They offer a private outdoor space to soak in the electric atmosphere, especially spectacular during events like New Year’s Eve.
  • The staff demonstrates a commitment to service. Many employees have been there since the hotel opened, fostering a sense of familiarity and making guests feel valued year after year.
  • In-room floral arrangements elevate the experience. Having a beautiful orchid greet you adds a touch of luxury that makes the stay feel more special.
  • The hotel is generally clean and well-maintained. The modern design and attention to detail contribute to an overall feeling of sophistication.
  • The lobby has an inviting aroma that sets a pleasant tone upon entry. It’s a small but memorable detail that enhances your first impression.
  • The gym features a variety of equipment. While the hydration setup might be unconventional, it still ensures you have access to water while you work out.
What doesn't
  • Room sizes can be cramped, especially if you are accustomed to larger hotel rooms. This can be particularly uncomfortable for couples or families needing more space.
  • The lack of complimentary tea in the rooms stands out at this price point. Paying nearly $20 for room service tea feels excessive, especially since it was inconsistent with delivery.
  • Room service options are limited. You might find the menu underwhelming compared to the vibrant dining experiences available on-site.
  • The hotel has experienced some wear and tear. Scuff marks on floors and cracked fixtures in the bathroom can detract from the luxury experience you expect for the price.
  • Welcome amenities are notably absent. For a hotel of this caliber, it feels disappointing to not receive even a small token of appreciation for loyalty or repeat stays.
  • The gym lacks bottled water, which is somewhat atypical for a luxury hotel. While the water spigot is functional, it feels mismatched with the expected level of service.

Excellent stay at The Edition Times Square

Everything was very nice at The Edition - our first time staying at a property from this Marriott brand. The room design was a nice minimalist style. Everything was working well in the hotel and the room (except one USB port - no biggie). The Times Square view was very interesting. The Times Square location was convenient, although trying to drive in and drop off luggage late at night was the usual NYC challenge. The stay overall was excellent, and The front desk, bell staff and concierge were very helpful. I would stay here again if a reasonable room rate were available at the time. I can think of some minor things, but nothing that took away from the stay. Self-park arrangements were available with a discount for hotel guests, but this information, and the process to claim it, were not documented on the hotel/Marriott websites, nor in the Marriott app, so I'm glad I used the app to ask the hotel about parking up front, or else I would have had no idea. In that vein, information about some hotel services like the hours for the Terrace restaurant had info in the app, but that did not agree with the hours list on the website that the app sends you to if you click, and that did not agree with the info that the QR codes in the room led to, so that's just silly - and slightly annoying. I'm sure the folks on-site in the hotel don't make those changes to keep things up to date, but someone should be. The $40 fee each day was expected, but restrictive - apparently it has to be used the NIGHT you check in or in other words by the time room service closes at 2:00 AM, or else you lose it, so checking in late at night doesn't leave much room to use it. If the length of a day of my stay starts in the evening and continues until check-out time, why isnt the credit valid for the same period (and in the middle of a multi-day stay, each day is 24 hours long). Most people want to use their credit for breakfast, since all Edition hotels don't extend free breakfast benefits to Platinum Bonvoy members, but on the morning of checkout, the $40 food and beverage credit is no good. Having to verify the folio at checkout to ensure the credits were applied is not a lot of fun, but necessary. There's a credit for the F&B credit on one of the two rooms we had, but not the other, and only for one day, since apparently the credits come 'off the top' of each transaction so otherwise they don't appear on the folio, so you have to check each transaction to see if it was applied there. Lots of work there for guests. An excellent benefit also available from the $40 fee was free tickets to the Museum of Modern Art for up to two people for each day of your stay, which we took advantage of -- good thing I looked at the fine print on the little card that came with our keys that mentions this. The ice cream sundae in the Lobby Bar was really good. :-)

Great place
Guests consistently praise The Times Square EDITION for its modern design, cleanliness, and attentive staff. Many reviewers highlight the hotel's prime location and well-maintained rooms, often mentioning the interesting Times Square views. Complaints tend to center around the confusing information regarding hotel services and fees, particularly the restrictive use of the daily food and beverage credit, as well as challenges faced during late-night check-ins.

Who Should Stay Here?

Travelers who thrive on the pulse of the city will find immense value here. The Times Square EDITION offers an unbeatable location, placing you steps away from iconic attractions and some of the best dining in New York. For those who appreciate stunning views, the terraces are a remarkable asset, especially during high-profile events. With a staff dedicated to service, the personal touches enhance the overall experience, making each stay feel special. However, this hotel may not suit everyone. Couples or families seeking spacious accommodations will likely feel cramped in the smaller rooms. If you expect complimentary amenities like tea in your room, be prepared for disappointment, as this hotel does not meet those standards at its price point. Additionally, if you prefer a diverse room service menu or pristine condition in your accommodations, you might want to consider other options.

The Verdict

Our Take

The Times Square EDITION delivers a unique experience with its unbeatable location and stunning terraces overlooking the city's iconic hustle. The attentive staff and luxurious touches, like in-room floral arrangements, make it a memorable stay. However, the cramped room sizes and limited room service menu may detract from the experience for some guests. Overall, if you thrive on vibrant city life and can compromise on space, this hotel is a solid choice.
