Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff here are genuinely friendly and helpful, making your stay feel more personal. They go beyond the usual hospitality, offering great local tips that can enhance your experience in Rome.
  • Its location is a significant plus. You can easily walk to major attractions like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, allowing you to soak in the city's atmosphere without the need for public transport.
  • The breakfast is a highlight, featuring a mix of pastries, cold cuts, and fresh fruit. Even though it's a continental style, the food is fresh and tasty, keeping you fueled for a day of exploration.
  • The hotel features good soundproofing, which is a relief given the bustling streets outside. You can enjoy a peaceful night's sleep away from the noise of the city.
  • The annex rooms provide a bit of a separation from the main hotel, which can offer a quieter stay. You still have easy access to hotel amenities without the hustle and bustle right outside your door.
What doesn't
  • The room sizes are small, which can feel cramped, especially when you need to open your luggage. This is something to keep in mind if you’re traveling with more than just a carry-on.
  • The bathroom facilities can be frustratingly tight. Some guests found the shower cubicles especially small, making the morning routine a challenge.
  • Breakfast options lack variety, which might leave you wanting more after a few days. If you prefer a diverse menu, you might find the limited choices disappointing.
  • Basic amenities like kettles or coffee-making facilities are missing from the rooms. You’ll need to ask for such items at reception, which can feel inconvenient during your stay.

Perfect location for exploring Rome

Perfect location to explore the city, walking distance to many attractions. We stayed 4 nights. This is a family operated hotel. Good size room and bathroom, AC worked well, comfortable bed. They offer complimentary breakfast: coffee, tea, juices, toast, cold cuts and cheese, pastries and fruit, fresh and tasty. The staff is the biggest advantage of the hotel. Very caring about the guests, helped recommend local restaurants and provided tips how to avoid tourist traps and when is the best time to visit attractions. My recommendation is to book directly with them, I went through booking.com and had some issues but the staff helped resolve these quickly. I would stay again and highly recommend booking for exploring Rome .

It was the best and very affordable.

The location was perfect. We were close to a lot of things which we could walk to. Also, I can’t say enough about the staff, they were friendly and very helpful with suggestions about where to eat and made my friend and I feel so welcome.
Can’t say that I had any complaints.
Guests consistently praise Hotel Grifo for its excellent location and friendly, helpful staff. Many reviews highlight the quality of the continental breakfast and the overall cleanliness of the rooms. However, complaints often mention the small size of the shower cubicles and the absence of kettles in the rooms.

Who Should Stay Here?

Hotel Grifo offers a genuine experience for travelers who appreciate friendly service and a central location. Those who enjoy walking to major attractions like the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain will find the hotel's proximity to these sights invaluable. If you are looking to immerse yourself in Rome's vibrant atmosphere and appreciate a solid breakfast to kickstart your day, this hotel delivers on those fronts. The soundproofing also ensures that you can enjoy restful nights amidst the city's hustle and bustle. However, if you prioritize space and modern amenities, you might want to explore other options. The rooms are small, which can be problematic for those with larger luggage. Guests who prefer a diverse breakfast menu or need basic coffee-making facilities may find the offerings here quite limited. If comfort and convenience are at the top of your list, this hotel might not meet your expectations.

The Verdict

Our Take

Hotel Grifo offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a friendly staff ready to enhance your Roman adventure. Its prime location allows for easy access to major sights, making it a convenient home base. However, be prepared for compact rooms and tight bathroom facilities, which may not suit everyone. If you value service and location over spaciousness, this hotel is a solid choice.
