Pros & Cons

What works
  • The staff is genuinely welcoming and tries hard to make your stay pleasant. A friendly face at check-in can make even a long travel day feel a little easier.
  • The location is convenient, surrounded by shopping, dining, and attractions. You can easily grab a meal or pick up essentials without having to drive far.
  • The hotel is generally quiet, allowing for a good night's sleep. A peaceful environment can be hard to find in busier areas, so this is a nice perk.
  • Some rooms have a kitchenette, which is a huge plus if you prefer to prepare your meals. This can save you money and let you stick to your dietary preferences.
  • Free parking is available, which is a relief in a city where parking fees can add up quickly. You won’t have to worry about searching for a spot or paying extra.
What doesn't
  • Cleanliness leaves much to be desired, with reports of dirty rooms and shared areas. You might find yourself questioning whether your space has been properly sanitized.
  • The breakfast options are very limited, offering only a granola bar or muffin. If you're expecting a hearty start to the day, you'll need to find a nearby café.
  • Several guests reported issues with water temperature, with scalding hot water making showers uncomfortable. A good shower is a key part of winding down after a long day.
  • There have been complaints about maintenance issues, like malfunctioning appliances and air conditioning. Such problems can really disrupt your comfort during a stay.
  • Safety concerns have been raised regarding the presence of unsavory guests in the area. This can make you feel uneasy if you plan to explore outside the hotel.

Nothing
I don't know if the place isn't just a hotel, because some "guests" looked like gang members or homeless people who even stank of urine. It really made the place feel unsafe and uncomfortable to go outside the room.

Guests frequently commend the welcoming and attentive nature of the staff at Extended Stay America Suites - San Diego - Fashion Valley. However, complaints about cleanliness and maintenance issues dominate the reviews, with reports of cockroaches, lack of hot water, and inadequate supplies like sheets and towels. Concerns about safety and the presence of unsavory individuals further detract from the overall experience.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget travelers and those seeking a long-term stay will find value here. The friendly staff goes out of their way to help, making for a warm check-in experience. With shopping and dining options nearby, you won’t need to drive far for essentials. Plus, if you enjoy cooking, the kitchenette in your room can help you save on meals while accommodating dietary needs. The quiet atmosphere also allows for restful nights, which is a significant perk in a city like San Diego. On the other hand, if cleanliness and maintenance are top priorities for you, this hotel may not meet your expectations. Reports of dirty rooms and issues with water temperature can be deal-breakers. The limited breakfast options won’t satisfy those who want a substantial start to their day. If you expect reliable amenities and a pristine environment, you might be better off choosing a different hotel.

The Verdict

Our Take

Extended Stay America Suites in San Diego offers a friendly atmosphere and a convenient location, making it a decent choice for budget travelers. The welcoming staff and quiet environment are strong points, as is the option for in-room kitchenettes. However, the cleanliness issues and limited breakfast options are significant drawbacks. If you prioritize cost and location over luxury, this hotel may suit your needs, but be prepared to compromise on hygiene and dining.
