Pros & Cons

What works
  • The hotel is a short walk from the ferry that takes you to the central station. This makes it easy to access the main attractions in Amsterdam without paying inflated prices for a hotel right in the city center.
  • Cleanliness is a strong point here, with the rooms maintained to a commendable standard. This attention to detail helps create a comfortable and pleasant stay.
  • The breakfast selection is varied, which is great if you enjoy starting your day with a good meal. You’ll find options that cater to different tastes, even if some items repeat over time.
  • The friendly staff stands out, always ready to assist with a smile. Their professionalism adds a welcoming atmosphere that can make a big difference in your overall experience.
  • The on-site bar and restaurant provide convenient dining options after a long day of exploring. It's a nice touch to have a place to unwind without needing to venture out.
What doesn't
  • The breakfast may lack variety over multiple days, which can make it feel repetitive. If you’re staying for an extended period, you might find yourself longing for different options.
  • While the location is relatively close to the center, it's not exactly in the thick of things. If you prefer to be in the hustle and bustle, the 10-minute walk and ferry ride may feel inconvenient.
  • Some guests reported issues with the WiFi connectivity, which can be frustrating if you want to catch up on shows or plan your next day. Frequent interruptions can turn a relaxing evening into a hassle.
  • Despite the overall cleanliness, some guests experienced lapses in attention to detail. This inconsistency can be disappointing if you have high standards for hotel hygiene.

8Excellent

Lovely Hotel and Staff but WiFi was not good at all

Staff were very helpful and the rooms were surprisingly lovely
The WiFi cut out every 5 mins meaning the tv channels did too it took roughly 2-3mins per time to get it back that was highly frustrating. This meant nothing to watch of an evening on any channel at all.

7Very Good

Great location and facilities. Breakfast disappointing.

THis is a large hotel 10 minute walk away from the main cental station. The hotel is a short walk and ferry ride away from the central train station. This meant that the hotel prices were a lot lower than south of the station. The hotel is verly large, clean and has its own bar/restaurant. It is also near food markets and parking isn't a problem.
For such a large hotel, the selection of warm food at breakfast was very poor. Apart from scrambled eggs and beans with carrots (!), all the food was cold. For a very large hotel catering to guests from all over the world, this is unsatisfactory. Also there is no variety. The breakfast menu never seems to change.
Guests frequently praise the professionalism and helpfulness of the staff, along with the hotel's clean and lovely rooms. However, many express frustration with the unreliable WiFi that cuts out frequently, and the breakfast offerings disappoint due to limited warm food options and lack of variety.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget-conscious travelers and those who prefer a quieter stay will find value at the Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam - North Riverside. The convenient ferry access to central Amsterdam allows guests to explore the city without the high costs associated with central accommodations. Clean rooms, friendly staff, and a decent breakfast spread set the stage for a comfortable visit, making it a solid choice for those who prioritize practicality over luxury. However, if you thrive on the vibrant energy of a city, this hotel may not meet your needs. Its location, while convenient, requires a bit of effort to reach the main attractions, which can feel inconvenient after a long day of sightseeing. Additionally, the WiFi issues may frustrate business travelers or anyone who relies heavily on internet access. For those who demand a bustling atmosphere right outside their door, seeking a hotel in the heart of the city might be a better fit.

The Verdict

Our Take

The Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam - North Riverside offers a solid stay with its cleanliness, friendly staff, and convenient access to the city via a short ferry ride. However, if you are planning a longer trip, the repetitive breakfast and the intermittent WiFi might detract from your experience. For those who prioritize comfort and value over being in the city center, this hotel delivers. I recommend it for budget-conscious travelers who don’t mind a slight commute.
