Pros & Cons

What works
  • The rooms are consistently clean and comfortable, which makes settling in after a long day of exploring feel like a treat.
  • The staff are genuinely friendly and helpful; they create a warm atmosphere that makes you feel welcome right from check-in.
  • The common area is nicely decorated and provides a relaxed space to unwind, socialize, or even catch a movie, it's a great way to connect with other travelers.
  • Public transportation options nearby make it easy to hop into the city center quickly, allowing you to enjoy all that Amsterdam has to offer without the hassle of being in the thick of it.
  • The hostel offers a bike rental service, which is a fantastic way to explore Amsterdam like a local while enjoying the scenic canals and pathways.
What doesn't
  • The distance from the city center can be inconvenient if you prefer to be in the heart of the action, especially late at night when public transport options are limited.
  • The lockers in the dorm require a personal padlock, which can catch you off guard if you don't come prepared; this adds unnecessary hassle to your stay.
  • The lack of privacy curtains on the beds can detract from the overall sleeping experience, especially in a shared dorm where light and noise can be disruptive.
  • The kitchen is missing a stove, limiting your ability to cook proper meals. If you're staying for an extended period, this could make meal planning challenging.
  • There have been reports of water pressure issues and toilets clogging easily, which can be frustrating during busy times when everyone is trying to use the facilities.

I forgot that there is the city tax when comparing the prices but it was not too much so it’s ok

Very clean, nice location near the metro station
I would prefer more furniture in the room for storage purposes
Guests consistently praise the friendly and helpful staff at Via Amsterdam, as well as the cleanliness and cozy atmosphere of the accommodations. However, many reviews point out the lack of kitchen facilities, such as a hot plate, and a need for additional storage furniture in the rooms.

Who Should Stay Here?

Budget travelers and social butterflies will find value at Via Amsterdam. The clean and comfortable rooms provide a restful retreat after a day of exploring the city, and the friendly staff enhance the experience with their welcoming demeanor. The common area invites interaction with fellow travelers, making it a good spot for those looking to forge connections. Plus, the easy access to public transportation means you can dive into Amsterdam's attractions without the price tag of a central location. On the other hand, those seeking a vibrant nightlife scene should consider hotels closer to the city center. If you plan to be out late, the limited late-night public transport options could leave you stranded. Additionally, guests who prioritize privacy or cooking facilities might want to look elsewhere, as the dorm setup lacks curtains and the kitchen is not fully equipped for extensive meal prep.

The Verdict

Our Take

Via Amsterdam offers a comfortable stay with clean rooms and friendly staff who genuinely enhance the experience. The vibrant common areas foster a communal atmosphere, making it easy to meet fellow travelers. However, the distance from the city center and the lack of privacy in shared dorms may deter some guests. If you value a warm environment and don't mind a quick tram ride into the city, this hotel is worth considering.
