Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location is prime, sitting right on the marina, offering stunning views and a serene atmosphere that feels worlds away from the bustle of Los Angeles.
  • Service here is exceptional, with staff who genuinely care about making your stay memorable, which can elevate your experience beyond just a place to sleep.
  • The pool area is a nice retreat, ideal for soaking up the sun or unwinding after a long day, but be sure to check if it's open, previous guests have noted closures without notice.
  • The on-site dining options are generally well-regarded, with fresh and flavorful meals that could save you the hassle of venturing out for every meal.
  • Rooms are spacious and many feature balconies, allowing you to enjoy fresh air and marina views, which adds a nice touch to your stay.
  • The spa facilities are clean and well maintained, providing a great place to relax and recharge during your visit.
  • The gym is well-equipped, making it easy to stick to your fitness routine even while traveling.
What doesn't
  • Cleanliness has been a recurring issue, with several guests reporting sticky floors and poorly cleaned bathrooms, which is disappointing for a five-star establishment.
  • The rooms feel dated, with furnishings that show signs of wear and tear, leaving you wondering if you're truly staying at a luxury property.
  • Communication with the front desk can be hit or miss, with some guests experiencing rude service or confusion regarding their reservations and charges.
  • High pricing may not match the overall experience, as expectations for a Ritz-Carlton should come with a guarantee of luxury that this property struggles to deliver.
  • Noise from adjoining rooms can be disruptive, particularly if you're looking for a peaceful retreat; soundproofing doesn’t seem in line with luxury standards.

Marina del Ray Ritz Carlton - Wonderful!

Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey was absolutely outstanding! The location is perfect, right on the marina with beautiful views of the water and yachts. The atmosphere is serene and relaxing, making it an ideal escape from the hustle of Los Angeles. The service was impeccable from start to finish. Every staff member we encountered was warm, professional, and eager to make our stay memorable. The rooms are spacious, elegantly designed, and many offer stunning marina views. Dining at the hotel was a highlight, the food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The property also features a lovely pool area and easy access to walking paths along the marina, which we really enjoyed. The club lounge is lovely, but not sure, compared to the others that I have experienced, would spend the money next time. If you’re looking for luxury, tranquility, and exceptional service in LA, The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey is the perfect choice. Highly recommend!

Classy, kind, relaxing and delicious - best of all: the staff

We just left this wonderful hotel after 7 days. It was so wonderful. Obviously the location is beautiful in the Marina, and the hotel is classy and gorgeous with it’s signature style. We had a room with access to the club lounge and Zsuzie, Adam, Alondra, Maria and Estephanie treated us so kindly and we’re so hospitable - like they were inviting us into their homes. We met many wonderful people in the club lounge and chatted with them, because the ambience was so quaint and cosy. Throughout the day they served snacks and light meals. It was delicious!! But what made the stay perfect was the people. Only minus was the internet in the club lounge. We don’t have an American internet plan, so working WiFi is something we really appreciate. The housekeeping team taking care of our room were so nice, and made us feel at home everyday walking into our beautifully made room. They were amazing! And we really appreciated the smiling chit-chat everyday. Lush bathrobes and towels. The reception. The two ladies checking us in were joyful and welcoming. Being greeted like that after a long days travel is so important. It sets the tone for the entire stay. A couple of days later, I saw them again and we chatted - later that night we came back to the room where cookies and the sweetest note was awaiting us. Super thoughtful of them and something we didn’t expect. Thank you!! Reception also helped us get pants altered and concierge helped us with a rental car. They were all so helpful and sweet. Leaving today we were sent off by such a kind man in reception. He checked us out and just sent us off feeling like we were friends of the house. Will we be back? ABSOLUTELY 🩷

Very service oriented staff, nothing remarkable about the rooms, absurd food prices

The best part of this hotel was the staff and the location. If you were teleported directly into the rooms however, you wouldn't be able to distinguish this from many of Marriott's other brands. It was clean, comfortable and quiet but there's nothing remarkable about the accomodations. The food price is laughable and the quality doesn't justify it. The breakfast potatoes were almost certainly frozen tator tots. Lunch at Cast & Plow was fine but did not justify paying the same prices that we paid for food in the Maldives. Every person we encountered was service oriented and very friendly.

Not worth the money

Location was great, pool was nice, spa was nice and clean, facials were amazing
Rooms were shabby and furnishings were dated and incredibly used and beaten up. Incredibly disappointing. When we checked in, we didn’t get any information about the facilities, restaurants, or anything about our room. The room was not a 5 star value that you’d expect from a Ritz Carlton or the price we paid for the room. I definitely would never stay here again. We found the front desk staff rude and unhelpful. We’d called the night before check out and got a very nice gentlemen who helped us, the next day the front desk person claimed they didn’t know what we were talking about and it was made out like we were lying. During check out the receptionist had many things confused about our stay, we had lunch dinner and breakfast at the hotel and the bill was very confused. Overall this was not a 5 star ritz Carlton experience I’d expected
Guests consistently praise the service at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey, highlighting the warmth and attentiveness of the staff as a standout feature. The location and views are also frequently mentioned as major advantages. However, complaints about the value for money arise, particularly regarding the quality and pricing of food, as well as concerns about the condition of some rooms, which guests feel do not meet the expectations of a luxury establishment.

Who Should Stay Here?

Guests who value stunning marina views and exceptional service will find great value at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey. If you appreciate a serene atmosphere that allows a break from the bustling city, this hotel offers a pleasant retreat. The attentive staff genuinely work to make your stay memorable, enhancing your experience beyond just accommodations. For those who prioritize convenience, the well-regarded on-site dining options can save you from the hassle of dining out each time. However, travelers seeking a truly luxurious experience might be disappointed. Cleanliness issues have been noted by multiple guests, with reports of sticky floors and unkempt bathrooms being particularly concerning for a five-star property. Additionally, the rooms feel dated, and high prices may not align with the overall experience offered. If you expect the polished luxury typically associated with the Ritz-Carlton brand, you might want to explore other options.

The Verdict

Our Take

The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey offers stunning views and exceptional service, making it a desirable escape from the city's chaos. However, cleanliness issues and dated furnishings detract from its five-star reputation. If you're seeking a picturesque location and attentive staff, this hotel has much to offer, but be prepared for some inconsistencies. I recommend booking with caution, ensuring you prioritize the views and service while managing expectations about room quality.
