Overview

Pros & Cons

What works
  • The location near Union Square means you're just steps away from shopping, dining, and major attractions like the Powell Street cable car turntable, making it easy to explore the city without wasting time on transportation.
  • The service here stands out; staff members are attentive and genuinely seem to care about enhancing your stay, which can turn a good visit into a memorable one.
  • Breakfast at the hotel is a highlight, offering a variety of fresh options that can fuel you for a day of sightseeing, so you won’t have to venture out in search of coffee and pastries.
  • Rooms on the upper floors provide stunning city views, allowing you to soak in the San Francisco skyline right from your window, which is a nice treat after a long day.
  • The fast elevators mean you won't spend ages waiting to get up to your room or down to the lobby, which is a small but significant convenience in a busy hotel.
What doesn't
  • Some rooms show signs of wear and tear, which might detract from the experience, especially for a hotel at this price point where guests expect a bit more polish.
  • The lack of room service is a significant inconvenience for those who prefer dining in; having to visit the kitchen for 'grab and go' food can feel more like a chore than a service.
  • Long queues at the front desk can be frustrating, especially after a long journey, and having only a few staff members at peak check-in times slows down the process considerably.
  • The absence of bathrobes in the rooms is surprising for a four-star hotel; it's a small luxury that many guests have come to expect and would enhance the overall comfort.
  • Some complaints about cleanliness, like sticky desks and unclean bedding, suggest inconsistent housekeeping standards, which can be a turn-off for guests looking for a spotless stay.

Great Union Square Hotel Option

Great Union Square hotel. Parking in a city parking garage across the street. Rates are generally good (depending on demand). Service is always good. Bar food and beverages are good. Breakfast is expensive but plenty of other options within a block. easy transportation to North Beah, Uber, 30 bus 45 bus. Easy walk to Golden Gate theater, a bit further to the Orpheum.

We think it’s a nice place to stay on a great location.

We had a city view room and it was a great view. The room and the condition of everything was perfectly fine.
We’ve stayed here a number of times and appreciate the consistency.

Great location and view, but could use some improvements

Overall, good experience due to the convenient location, having a spacious room, and a great view. However, the rooms could use some updating and a few technical improvements given the price I paid for it. I would also like to see them improve the hotel restaurant/bar, which they haven't done since the last few times I've stayed here, and I believe that would really help the establishment as a whole. Staff was very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Ultimately, I would return, but they're are flaws that should be addressed moving forward.
Guests consistently praise the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square for its excellent location, stunning views, and attentive staff. Many highlight the cleanliness and amenities as noteworthy features. However, complaints frequently center around the need for room updates and improvements to the hotel restaurant and bar, suggesting that while the experience is generally positive, there are areas that require attention.

Who Should Stay Here?

The Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square is a solid choice for travelers who prioritize accessibility and service. If you enjoy being in the thick of things, this hotel places you steps away from major shopping and dining options. The attentive staff genuinely enhance your experience, making it a great fit for those who appreciate good service. The breakfast offerings are a bonus, allowing you to fuel up without having to venture out for morning essentials. Plus, upper floor rooms with city views provide a lovely backdrop after a day of exploring. This hotel may not be the right match for those seeking impeccable rooms and full service. Some accommodations show signs of wear, which can be disappointing given the price point. Additionally, the lack of room service may frustrate guests who prefer to dine in comfort. If you're easily deterred by long check-in lines or expect certain luxuries like bathrobes, you might want to explore other options that better meet your expectations.

The breakfast selection is impressive, and the city views from upper floors are a definite plus. However, signs of wear in some rooms and the absence of room service detract from the overall experience. If you prioritize location and service over room polish, this hotel is a solid choice for your San Francisco visit.
